I always admire someone who can take a really dull-seeming topic and make it interesting. That's how I feel about The Queen. It's basically a movie about the differences between the British monarchy and the real government—as in the prime minister's office. That sounds incredibly uninteresting, but the characters and how they all reacted differently to Princess Diana's death (also quite uninteresting to me) were just very believable and compelling. I'm often annoyed by movies that try to seem far too self-important and pretentious, but despite the subject matter The Queen wasn't, and I'm usually annoyed by slow-paced "character" movies that don't have much of a plot or an ending, but this one was an exception.
Also, the actor playing Prince Charles occasionally sounded like Kif from Futurama, which was amusing.
