The phantom buzzer

I hate the buzzing noise my dryer makes when it's done. I hate it so much. Worse, though, is that I've now gotten to a point where I hear it even when it's not going off. I'll just be sitting at home, and I'll imagine this awful noise coming from the laundry room. But the dryer isn't buzzing at all. It's all in my head. What an awful disorder.

Currently listening: Morcheeba, Bradley Burgess, and Manda—Run Honey Run (my current musical obsession)

I don't have that problem with my dryer. I do, however, have that problem with my phone. I don't know what it is about the sound my phone makes when it rings, but I hear it all the time...especially when I am listening to music - though when I go to check my phone I find that it wasn't ringing.

I wonder if it's those appliances or our own individual reactions to same. I hear buzzing whenever a tv, computer, stereo...really, anything... is left on. I thought it was some frequency that went away with age.

I'm one of those people who can hear when a TV is left on from far away too. It surprises people when they say they can't hear that noise.

The dryer is a much louder, more distinct noise, though.

I sometimes think the phone in my pocket is vibrating even when it's not actually in my pocket. It is rather annoying.

I believe that's pretty common.
