Working at Microsoft

This recently-Slashdotted essay titled "Working at Microsoft" is well worth a read for anyone who wants to know what my job is like, which I assume is at least some of you. I agree with the guy on just about every single point.

I agree with most of his comments. Based on my 3-month internship and the 4 PMs I met, I would say they were all very good managers. However, I haven't worked in nearly as many divisions as he has, so perhaps I should be wary of incompetent middle management.

The statement "middle management in this company sucks" is totally meaningless for a company as large as Microsoft. Clearly there are going to be stellar managers, and clearly there are going to be abysmal ones, and everything in between. As for myself? My direct manager seema excellent, but maybe I'm looking at him though newbie-tinted goggles.

Also - do new employees only get 2 weeks of vacation now? I'm pretty damn sure I'm getting 3. Maybe I should check into that...

They only got two weeks of vacation for a few months, but then there was uproar, so they changed back to three and retroactively gave those other employees an extra week.
