I don't like old-style numerals (1234567890), and I don't like typefaces where the ten digits are not equal width. One of the cool features of OpenType is that a typeface can include old-style numerals for people who like them, but modern-style numerals (1234567890) for normal people.

I wonder how long it will take before the new Vista fonts are leaked to a substantial number of XP and Mac machines. Most of them use old-style numerals; Microsoft's research said that they are easier to read, but I don't think they are at all. I think they're distracting and unpleasant.

I would very much like to get my hands on Consolas.

Consolas is now my favorite monospaced font. Of course, "favorite monospaced font" is kind of like "favorite Backstreet Boys song."

I thought some of those were pretty good...I'll use them.

That is, if people on other systems can use/see them too.

They're Vista-only for now. They look best (in my opinion) on screen at sizes between 9 and 11 points, so it's kind of hard to pass judgment based on those big, blurry samples. They also look good in print.

I greatly enjoyed that the first Google hit for "consolas font" is this.

" Consolas in spanish is as close as it gets to the "masturbate" verb inflection (specially for women, where there's even the "consolador" device - a.k.a. dildo). Although according to some that would pretty much describe the sensation of using it, I doubt that was the idea behind the name :o)"
