The dark side of honesty

At lunch today...

(simultaneously)
Hessan: So, I was at the supermarket...
Alex: Are you ever...
(pause)
Hessan: You first.
Alex: No, you go ahead.
Hessan: Mine's just a story. You go first.
Alex: No, don't worry about it. I was just going to make fun of you.

A fun little game is to make up endings to "Are you ever" that would be especially humorous in the context. Such as, "Are you ever going to shut the hell up?"
